An Imperial residence

Discover the private residence of Napoleon Bonaparte and Joséphine, an intimate place renowned for the beauty of its gardens and the rare plant species it hosts. This “countryside retreat,” located just 30 minutes from Paris, remains a unique example of elegant Consular style. It was here that French political decisions were made, while meetings, receptions, concerts, balls, and pastoral gatherings succeeded one another.

AN UNIQUE CASTLE

You will have the opportunity to wander through this magnificent château with its remarkable history, from the veranda to the vestibule, the music room, and the majestic period library featuring a hidden staircase once used by Bonaparte to access his private apartments. You will discover the daily life of the Emperor, as well as a reconstruction of his death chamber, through numerous collections dedicated to Napoleon and Joséphine, including the Empress’s dresses and accessories, as well as artworks and objects related to Napoleon’s exile.

THE GARDEN OF MALMAISON

Your visit will conclude in a natural setting within the park of Malmaison, which spans over six hectares. Joséphine had a deep passion for English botanical gardens, commissioning numerous landscape designers to introduce rare plants and exotic species. She also had monuments built, such as the Temple of Love. The park stands today as a true botanical museum, reflecting the Empress’s passion through the reintroduction of plants she admired, the enhancement of monuments, and the preserved landscape perspectives.
